WashU in ___
Brand Identity, Typography, Fundraiser
A few days into Spring Break 2020, WashU students received that email –
You can't return to campus and you will finish the semester via Zoom due to COVID-19.
As a means of processing the news, I turned to satire. Washington University in St. Louis? More like Washington University in Highland Park (my hometown), amirite?!?! I decided to make this new logo for my ZoomU backgrounds to distract myself from mourning what could have been in St. Louis.
Lots of my peers (and their parents) loved my hometown WashU logo and wanted their own version.
Recognizing the demand, I put on my social entrepreneur cap and made shirts and stickers to help the WashU COVID emergency fund. This fund aided community members with various unexpected costs due to the pandemic.
I built an entire typeface based on Libre Baskerville (the typeface in the WashU brand guidelines) and the letter treatment in the WashU logo. Though very tedious, building out this treated type into a typeface allowed me to make dozens of customized logos.
I made over 50 t-shirts and over 25 stickers which enabled me to donate over $300 to the emergency fund.
